George Wesley Buchanan was a Professor of New Testament Studies for over 30 years. He taught at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington D.C., and at Bar-Ilan University in Israel. An eminent scholar, he authored over 20 books and hundreds of articles dealing with Biblical historicity in the context of the Ancient World. He was fluent in Latin, Greek, Hebrew, Aramaic, Arabic, English, and Spanish. Central to his work was the thesis that liturgy and law are closely related, and were synonymous in the Biblical eras.
In this interview, made in his 80th year, he discusses his last major academic work: "Revelation and Redemption". Weighing in at 747 pages, this book meticulously details the historical context and contemporary events to which the Book of Revelation refers, as well as its coded political message to members of the early Christian Church. He also outlines the concept of sacred liturgy and its importance in understanding the relationship between Jesus Christ and his followers.
